Purpose and Processing

Before You Book checks details on supported Airbnb and Booking.com pages before payment. It is independent of both companies. It reads displayed listing/checkout facts and reviews already loaded through your normal browsing. It does not automatically open or scroll reviews, call undocumented booking APIs, send host messages, place bookings or change reservations.

Processing uses rules and templates in your browser. This version has no model API, developer server, analytics, advertising SDK, automatic diagnostic upload or extension cloud sync. Opening an Airbnb/Booking.com link still contacts that website under its own policies. Copying a draft or deliberately sharing a downloaded diagnostic file puts that copy outside this extension's storage controls.

We use booking-page information only for the pre-book checks and related local reminders and data controls described here. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or transfer it for unrelated purposes. Our use of information adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Data on Your Device

Data	Storage and Retention
Listing identifiers/names, bed and amenity facts, rules and short source evidence	Extension local storage, at most 20 listings. Each field is reusable for 30 minutes and retained for up to 24 hours after observation, subject to cleanup execution.
Loaded review text/IDs, language flags, dates when available, derived themes and evidence	Extension session storage, isolated by listing. Airbnb records are limited to 100 per listing, 2,000 characters per record; a capture payload also has a 160,000-byte limit. Up to 20 listings are retained across platforms, with a 4 MiB aggregate review-data pruning threshold. Booking evidence is limited to 30 groups per listing.
Trip-specific profiles, dates/listing keys, preference-choice signals	Extension session storage. Up to 100 tab/trip profiles and 20 recent choice signals.
Most recently saved budget, scenario and amenity defaults	Extension local storage, up to 90 days since last save. These are editable prefills, not a new trip's confirmation.
Explicitly accepted sleeping preferences	Extension local storage until you reset or clear them. No silent relaxation of standards.
Cancellation reminders	Extension local storage and Chrome alarms/notifications. Includes listing/trip identity, displayed policy/deadline, trigger time, saved timezone and status. Retained until 7 days after checkout, or 7 days after the cancellation date when checkout is unknown, subject to cleanup execution. The stored navigation target is the fixed Airbnb Trips URL, not a payment URL.
Current checks and edited host drafts	Page memory, discarded on clear and normally lost on full navigation/reload. They are not a durable mailbox.
Dismissal and data-version markers	Namespaced keys in the travel page's sessionStorage. Current dismissal keys contain a SHA-256 digest, not the raw booking summary. They are not secrets or anonymous identifiers. Minimal DOM-change signatures remain in page memory to prevent stale SPA content reuse; they are not exported or persisted.

Listing/review source text can contain identifying information written by a host or guest. Local-only does not mean no personal data is processed. The extension does not store payment-form values, passwords or site cookies. It does not promise encryption of browser-local records or protection from someone with access to your browser/device.

Session reviews are not restored from local storage. Chrome clears extension session storage on browser restart and extension reload/update/disable. Local expiry cleanup runs when Chrome and the extension execute; closing the browser does not cause immediate physical deletion. Chrome storage documentation.

Your Controls

Reset saved preferences removes explicit sleeping preferences, saved defaults, trip profiles and choice signals. Listing facts, reviews and reminders remain. Partial failures are reported.
Clear saved data, followed by confirmation, removes owned local/session records, page drafts/dismissal markers, alarms and notifications. An internal nonpersonal epoch counter remains to reject old requests. Already-open supported tabs pause collection until an explicit check or clear navigation; ambiguous SPA transitions may require a reload.
Clear is not reported complete until storage/resource operations succeed and supported open pages acknowledge cleanup. An inaccessible, suspended or outdated tab can require reload/closure and retry. A durable clearing flag blocks new saved data during partial failure; remaining data may still physically exist until cleanup succeeds. Background recovery retries incomplete cleanup.
Clear does not cancel bookings, log you out, erase site-owned cookies/storage, clear the clipboard or delete files you downloaded. Page storage unavailable to the extension cannot be claimed cleared.
Notifications are opt-in through Remind me. Chrome accepting a notification does not prove it appeared. Deadline changes and booking cancellations are not automatically tracked; manage/delete reminders explicitly.

Optional Diagnostics

Nothing is generated or exported automatically. Preview diagnostics requests an allowlisted report from the active supported tab, displays the complete JSON locally, and offers a separate download. It contains only extension version, page kind, a stable error code, fixed field-presence booleans and review/evidence counts. Missing/unavailable values are explicit. It excludes URLs and query parameters, listing/trip IDs, names, budgets/prices/dates, review text, drafts, raw exception messages and page HTML. A paused page returns a paused report without extracting its contents. Downloaded reports remain until you delete them yourself; the extension does not upload them.

Permissions

No activeTab, cookies, browsing-history, unlimitedStorage or downloads permission is requested by 0.4.1. Supported-host access covers user-triggered checks and diagnostics on those two websites. Diagnostics use a user-clicked local Blob download. Chrome quotas still apply; errors are shown rather than promising unlimited storage.

Support and Changes

Contact liudajiang0828@gmail.com with privacy or support questions. Do not include payment details, passwords, reservation codes or unredacted guest messages. Material changes to these practices will be reflected in this notice and the extension's disclosures before they apply.

This documentation website is separate from the extension. Its hosting provider, Cloudflare, receives normal website requests when you visit these pages under its privacy policy. We do not add analytics, cookies, forms or third-party scripts to these pages. The extension does not upload your booking data to this website.
